# Mastering Spotlight Search on macOS Tahoe

Spotlight is more than just a search bar; it is the fastest way to navigate your Mac, find information, and perform quick tasks without opening specific applications.

## Accessing Spotlight

To open Spotlight, press:

Cmd + Space
```

A search bar will appear in the center of your screen. To close it, press `Esc` or click anywhere else on the screen.

## Launching Applications

The most common use for Spotlight is launching apps without touching the mouse.

1.  Press `Cmd + Space`.
2.  Type the first few letters of the app name (e.g., "Chr" for Chrome, "Ter" for Terminal).
3.  Press `Enter` when the app appears as the top hit.

## Finding Files

Spotlight indexes your entire system. You can search for files by name, content, or metadata.

*   **By Name**: Just type the filename.
*   **By Extension**: Type "kind:pdf" or "kind:image" followed by your search term.
*   **Natural Language**: Try typing "photos from last week" or "documents modified yesterday".

## Quick Calculations and Conversions

You don't need to open the Calculator app or a browser for simple math.

*   **Math**: Type `25 * 42` or `100 / 5`. The result appears instantly.
*   **Currency**: Type `100 USD to EUR`.
*   **Measurements**: Type `50 kg to lbs` or `100 km to miles`.

## Definitions and Knowledge

*   **Dictionary**: Type a word to see its definition.
*   **Weather**: Type "weather in Paris".
*   **Sports**: Type a team name to see recent scores.
